Before getting into the most recent events, a reminder that the election of officers for the 2019 GEOregon Board of Directors will be coming up soon.  Summary job descriptions were passed out at the August Meet and Greet and the September picnic in hopes of attracting some great candidates from our wonderful group of local caching enthusiasts.  Please consider giving back to our hobby by participating on the board of directors of GEOregon or nominating someone you know that will help provide good direction for the future of our organization.  The only requirement to being nominated is that you must have been a paid member of GEOregon for at least 6 months.

The GEOregon picnic was held on Saturday September 8th at Summer Lake Park in Tigard.  Once again, I could not attend as I was playing around with race cars, this time racing the 03 Spitfire at PIR, (there’s a pattern showing up here).  However, Mrs Spitfire was there, and I’ll let her take it from here:

This was a perfect day for a picnic – not too hot, not too cold, we didn’t get rained on and we saw lots of new and returning friendly faces. Some cachers brought friends and there were several in attendance who had never cached before.  Folks brought lots of potluck items to go along with the burgers, vegie burgers and hot dogs that were served.  Thanks to the new cachers that helped to tend the grills.  Games included caching bingo, an ammo can toss, what’s in your caching bag and GPS accuracy with prizes for the winners.  There was also a raffle drawing for those who found golden tickets and another for the picnic volunteers (many thanks).  Check out the picnic photos by Brenda Parsons and Tammy Larson on the Geocachers Exploring Oregon Face Book page.

The following weekend was the forth annual (and sadly last) Cache Dash Splash in Long Beach, Washington.  The weekend formally kicked off on Friday night with an event at Chico’s Pizza, but many cachers arrived a day early.  We came down on Thursday and spent Friday team caching with bdp, Ondago and PurpleJoker (team BOPS), going up and down the peninsula and ending the day at Chico’s.  Saturday started off with an event in Long Beach where we signed in and picked up our credentials and geocoins before heading off to find a bunch of new caches.  Team BOPS was joined by KnitGurl for the days’ adventure.  We found all the new caches that were available along with several others we had missed on previous trips to Long Beach.  Late afternoon we split up and I retired to the motorhome to log our finds while Patty teamed up with some others to find our very first WhereIGo cache.  Many thanks to Laurie (funbeach) for putting on these events.
